Best places to watch the big game: Our guide to every home-away-from-home NFL sports bar in town

Football bars in NYC

Unless you have DirecTV (let's hear it for monopolies!), watching your favorite NFL team in this city can be a hassle—assuming you're not a Jets or Giants fan. Fortunately, the following bars offer the chance to revel with like-minded fans in a friendly environment. Unless you're a Texans Chiefs fan. Then there's no hope for you.

AFC

New England Patriots

The Hairy Monk (oh, and Professor Thom's and The Riviera)
Known more as a Red Sox bar, the Pats-friendly Monk is not a place for New York fans to congregate, but rather a place to “pahk ya’ass ova dare on a stoo,” kick back with some cheap beer and watch the the three-time Super Bowl champs. (337 Third Ave., 212-532-2929)

Pittsburgh Steelers

Suspenders
Ever since the demise of Buster’s Garage, Steel Curtain followers have to head farther down to this Financial District spot. But the trade-off is worth it, as eight HD widescreens vividly broadcast every bone-crunching hit on Ben Roethlisberger. (111 Broadway, 212-732-5005)

Angels and Kings
A newly christened sports bar (during the weekend days), AK now has 11 screens and Pittsburgh drink specials ($3 Iron City Light) to please the Steeler Nation. A dozen craft beers are also (cheaply) available on tap. (500 E. 11th St., 212-254-4090)

New York Jets
If the bar has a TV, the Jets will be on it. This is New York City, baby. Next.

Buffalo Bills
McFadden’s and Calico Jacks
The Buffalo Bills Backers might make even the most ardent Bills non-fan want to switch allegiances with their incredible Sunday bar specials. $20 will land you unlimited Budweiser (add $10 to include the rest of the taps) and wings—from an hour before the game until an hour after. (800 Second Ave., 212-986-1515; 212 557-4300)

Houston Texans
Seriously?

Indianapolis Colts
Ship of Fools
This might not technically be a Colts bar, but it is a Notre Dame bar, so by proxy we’ll claim it as such. With 40+ TVs and 5 different “sound zones,” we guarantee some fantasy footballer will have gotten the sound up on the Colts so he can watch Peyton make sure everyone knows who the worthwhile Manning is. (1590 Second Ave., 212-570-2651). Also, head to Keats (842 Second Ave., 212-682-5490), where the bartenders dress-up in blue and white. That's diehard.

Oakland Raiders
Do yourself (and your self-respect) a favor, get DirecTV and watch it embarrassment/harassment free on your couch.

San Diego

Brother Jimmy’s BBQ
Oddly, this Carolina-style barbecue joint has become a de facto home to newer Chargers fans since the emergence of NC State alum Philip Rivers took the helm last season. In all fairness, it's also known to pack in Southern transplants cheering on the Panthers. (1485 Second Ave., 212-288-0999)

NFC
New York Giants
And pretty much anywhere with a TV...

Philadelphia Eagles
The Town Tavern
Probably a good idea for all Giants and Cowboys fans to steer clear of the Town Tavern on Sunday afternoons, as Eagles fans aren’t the friendliest of fans. Cheap pints of Yeungling, half-price burgers, and Philly cheesesteaks are available during games. (134 W. Third St., 212-253-6955)

Dallas Cowboys
Stone Creek
Fans of “America’s Team” don’t get much love in Giants country, so they are best served sticking together. Stone Creek may not seem like the place football fans would gather, considering the place offers up live jazz and all-you-can-eat Belgian-style mussels and fries for $15.95 on Monday nights. But as we already know, Cowboys fans are weird. (147 E. 27th St., 212-532-1037)

New Orleans Saints
d.b.a. Brooklyn

There's a branch of this Brooklyn brew-pub on Frenchman St. in the Quarter. Nuff said. (113 N. Seventh St., 718-218-6006)

New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings
Bar None
During the 2006 playoffs, over 200 Saints fans packed this NYU hang to watch their team's improbable run to the NFC Championship Game. Vikings fans are also known to claim this spot as their home base. Ditto for the 2009 NFC Championship (78 Third Ave., 212-777-6663)

Seattle Seahawks
Carlow East
It looks like a place that was designed to attract the upscale clientele of the Upper East Side, with its classic old wood bar and a solid selection of liquors on glass shelves in front of the three mirrors located behind it. Seahawks fans invade every Sunday. (1254 Lexington Ave., 212-744-6397)

Chicago Bears

Gael Pub
Fans of da Bears flood this Upper East Side pub every Sunday to enjoy cold beer and mounted flat screens, although since there seems to be such an influx of Chicago folk in NYC, we wouldn’t be surprised if they start to outgrow this smaller establishment. (1465 Third Ave., 212- 517-4141)

Carolina Panthers
Brother Jimmy’s
See above.

San Francisco 49ers
Lee’s Tavern
How big of a Niners fan are you? Show it by hauling ass out to Staten Island where this dedicated NY 49ers booster club meets. If it’s any consolation, the spot is said to serve the best thin-crust pizza on SI. Whee? (60 Hancock St., 718-667-9749)

St. Louis Rams
Dewey’s Flatiron
Flatiron is a well-known haven for St. Louis Cardinals fans, so hey, why not extend the love to the football Rams? The bar hosts a private room that can hold 300 people, and their phone number is 212-696-BEER. Can you beat that? (210 Fifth Ave., 212-696-2337)

Atlanta Falcons
d.b.a
It’s not exactly a sports bar, but it is a dog-friendly bar—something the Falcons need to be associated with these days. Expect an outstanding and oversized scotch and whiskey selection. (41 First Ave., 212-677-0437)

Good to see all the Chargers fans could catch the loss while eating some horrible BBQ. KC wins on both fronts!
