It's Armadillo eggs, Texas-sized ribs and Kreutz Market sausages at Hill Country’s Super Bowl soiree
For viewers looking for a little something besides beer and wings, this relative barbecue newcomer is offering a celebratory menu that includes deals on texas-sized ribs, sausage skewers, chili maccaroni and cheese, armadillo eggs and juicy sliders. The game, of course, will be broadcast from a giant screen with table service available throughout so folks won’t miss a second of the action. Also on hand will be beer and cocktail specials, as well as trivia, raffles and games. Call for reservations. (30 W. 26th St., 212.255.4544)
Crispy Duck Necks at Trestle on Tenth
Screw chicken wings during this year’s Super Bowl snacking, and go for something, well, different. From 12-8 p.m., this West Side restaurant will be offering a special takeout deal on their infamous dish. Necks (which have the sweetest meat on the duck) are braised until falling-off-the-bone tender, rolled in bread crumbs, fried until golden crisp and served with a savory garlic and anchovy sauce. According to the restaurant, more than one player on each of this year’s competing teams has secretly been eating crispy duck necks for extra strength and endurance...We don’t know about that, but adventurous hosts can pick up their own batches at the restaurant (served by the dozen for $16) up until game time. (242 Tenth Ave., 212-645-5659)
Momofuku ’s Super Bowl special
Even David Chang's revolutionary noodle nirvana is squeezing in on the action with their Super Bowl Bo Ssäm Special: $30 scores you bo ssäm (roasted pork shoulder), along with with rice, salad, special house chicken wings, cole slaw, pickles and assorted desserts. All that’s left for you to do is pick up the beer. Call to order, delivery available. (171 First Ave., 212 777-7773)
The Village Pourhouse tailgate party and competitive eating half-time challenge
For most sports bars, Super Bowl bashes are a one-day deal. They show the game, serve some beer, then do it again the next year. At this events-heavy East Village tavern, the 2008 festivities start early. On January 31st, Pourhouse is hosting a tailgate party where folks can try their hand at winning their own title in a special Super Bowl version of trivia night. The winning team gets a $100 bar tab to be used at the main event. On Sunday, the game will be broadcast on over 20 HDTVs surrounding the bar, and a competitive eating contest will be held at half-time (wolf down the most sliders and score a $200 bar tab). (64 Third Ave., 212-979-2337)
Losers win at Maxie’s
When Park Avenue Country Club closed last year, it left a void for Midtown sports fans. Luckily, Maxie’s Bar & Grill, the casual dining outpost from the guys behind Angelo and Maxie’s, are ready to step in. With eight large plasma TVs and a menu packed with half-priced beer and bar snacks, Midtowners can breathe easy. Regardless of which team is in the lead, fans can still score at the bar, with discounted beer to all fans of the lagging team. The first 100 people to arrive can reserve a free square on the betting grid and be one of several winners picked throughout the game. Prizes range from free food and drinks, to the "Super Burger Tier" (three levels of 30 assorted sliders), to $50 and $100 gift certificates to the restaurant. (233 Park Ave. S., 212-979-7800)
Murphy's Patriots party
Ok, we realize there must be a few Pats fans among us, so we thought we'd throw 'em a bone. Murphy's Pub has been home to New England Patriots fans for 14 years, and this year the big game will be shown on the big screen (and lots of surrounding HD screens). No reservations are accepted, as seating is on a first come first serve basis (though we’re willing to bet there’ll be plenty of seats to spare this year). All football fans are technically welcome, so long as they’re “considerate of the die-hard regulars who have been gathering (and sitting in the same seats) at Murphy's for over a decade.” Doors open at 4 p.m. on Sunday. (977 Second Ave., 212-751-5400)
