We spoke with the recent “Day Zero” star about scoring at the East Village dive—we’re talking video bowling, of course.
So 7B is your local…
I love, love, love that bar and I think that bar is indicative of the kinds of bars I tend to fall in love with.
You mean a piss-smelling bar filled with frat boys?
I actually find that the patrons are incredibly chill and don’t bother anybody. But it’s also just old. The bones of that bar, architecturally, are just beautiful. The wooden, ovular bar itself and all of those booths are really much more beautiful than most people think.
What’s your drink?
Either a Stella or Hoegaardeen, and they have both of them on tap. Stella is a clean, crisp, delicious beer [laughing]. That was really descriptive.
So you are paid by Stella?
No, no. It’s just a really refreshing beer. And Hoegaarden is hard to find on tap, so that is pretty great.
What do you think of the jukebox?
There is a lot of metal and punk rock on it. But I want to say the last time I was there I played something from a country record. I am always quite pleased what other people are playing, which is not typical for me. What’s typical is for me to put in $10 and basically secure music for a couple hours, which is terrible.
What do people play?
I’ve heard Motorhead and the Descendants there. I’ve heard the album “Meantime” by Helmet. It’s all coming back to me.
Do you play the videogame Big Buck Hunter?
Oh yeah, we spent a lot of time playing Buck Hunter and this new bowling game. It’s awesome. I have a lot of pictures from a night of bowling there.
What’s your high score?
My average isn’t bad. I’m going to say 170 or 180. I may be a little high with that. I also love their photo booth, which is sadly digital now. It used to be an original black and white film booth. They were actually listed on photobooth.net. It’s sad to see those go.
At the end of the night, where do you do to grab a bite?
Le Souk is nearby and really great. Also, there is this amazing Greek restaurant closer to Niagara.
Pylos?
Ahhhh. That place is incredible! It was the first time I ever had that pine needle wine Retsina. And this baked pasta dish, pastitsio, is really great.
