Where to watch the World Cup in NYC

The Red Lion Inn
Known for its live music seven nights of the week, this wood-paneled West Village English pub, frequented by NYU students, locals, sports fans and music aficionados, attracts the area corner kick lovers. Seven screens are situated around photos of rockers Mick Jagger and Jerry Garcia. Expect a Brit-heavy crowd to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder during games. 151 Bleeker St. at Thompson St.

Stout NYC
Twenty beers on tap and more than 100 bottles await corporate commuters at this three-level bar situated a few steps from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Home of the Empire Supporters Club during the year, Stout favors good ’ole team U.S.A. 133 West 33rd St. between 6th and 7th Ave.

Novecento
Feast on Argentinean delicacies at this Soho spot, while watching Diego Armando Madono coach his La Albiceleste through the World Cup. Expect a big crowd during any of the Argentinean matches, but they’ll be open for all games. 343 West Broadway between Broome and Grand Sts.

Berry Park
The official bar of the World Soccer Project’s adult soccer and adult pick-up leagues in Brooklyn will offer  $1 off all beers to footie fans who don jerseys during the World Cup. 4 Berry Street at North 14th  St.

Ofrenda
This Mexican joint’s name translates to “gift” and that’s exactly what footie fans receive during the World Cup. Happy hour lasts from 10 a.m.-until close, meaning bar-goers receive a sampling of snacks like jicama with mango and chile and cucumber with pickled pork skin with each drink you purchase. And speaking of drinks, all margaritas, Bloody Mary’s, mimosas, merlots, red or white sangrias and chardonnays are $5, and their selection of Mexican beers (Negro Modelo, Pacifico, Tecate) is $4.50. Plus, if Javier Aguirre’s squad wins, all patrons will receive a free round of drinks. Viva Mexico! 113 7th Avenue South between West 10th and Christopher Sts.

Loreley
This popular LES beer garden is airing all World Cup matches on five flat screens and a giant projection screen. Grab a seat at one of their outdoor tables, sample some authentic German dishes (weiner schnitzel, bratwurst, eisbein), and take down glasses of more than 12 authentic German brews on tap—while rooting for Michael Ballack and crew. 7 Rivington Street between Bowery and Chrystie Sts.

Scuderia Restaurant and Bar
Cheer on the reigning World Cup champions on this Greenwich Village tratorria’s giant projection screen while gnoshing on such Northern Italian comfort foods as wild boar, wavioli with walnuts and gorgonzola and the Scuderia pizza (fig jam, blue cheese and speck). 257 Sixth Avenue between Houston and Bleeker Sts.

Smith’s Bar and Restaurant
This Hell’s Kitchen mainstay and pre-theater spot is known for its wallet-friendly grub (for example, a beer and burger are a mere 10 bucks), served for breakfast lunch and dinner. Come World Cup time, they’ll be showing every single match. 701 8th Avenue at 44th St.

Kinsale Tavern
On many lists for best Irish Pub in New York City, this Upper East Side joint shows pretty much every sports game imaginable on their many flat screens, from rugby and soccer to football and baseball. Swing by during the World Cup to sample its wide selection of whiskeys (75), world beers (115) and combination of both weathered and wet-behind-the-ear footie fans. 1672 Third Ave at 94th St.

Sunburnt Cow
Root for the Aussieroos while feasting on all sorts of shrimp and meat thrown on the barbie (sorry, we couldn’t resist) at this Lower-East-Side-meets-Oz joint. The counter meal (a three-course dinner—appetizer, entrée and desert, for $18), as well as their cave-themed outdoor patio sweeten the deal for footie freaks. 137 Avenue C between 8th and 9th Sts.

Casa Galicia
Enjoy an array of wallet-friendly and stomach-pleasing tapas while watching Real Madrid dash over the field at this Astoria joint. And thanks to the faithful crowd, when Spain wins a match, you’ll feel like you’ve won too. 37-09 31st Avenue, Astoria

Central Bar
Seven TVs glow with the turf-burning action at this two-level East Village Bar known for its love of the world’s most popular sport. Expect a crowd of tie-loosening locals as well as NYU students. 109 East 9th Street between 3rd and 4th Aves.

Sushi Samba
A World Cup-themed cocktail list and menu as well as special contests and play-by-play coverage of all your favorite teams (especially Japan) await you at this swank sushi locale. 87 Seventh Avenue South at Bleeker St.

Opia
Feast on French cuisine at this Midtown East bar while watching les blues with the buttoned-up crowd. They will be airing all World Cup matches on their big screens and have specials that are on the D.L. for now. 130 E. 57th Street at Lexington Ave.

Brass Monkey
On the outer edges of the Meat Packing District just next to the Hudson lies this two-floored joint that caters to business professionals and lovers of riverside roof decks. Swing by if you like your soccer served with only moderate screaming. 55 Little West 12th Street at 10th Ave.

Galway Hooker
Thirty bottled beers and 30 beers on tap are available at this Kips Bay Irish Pub, named after a traditional sailing ship found in the Emerald Isle’s Galway Bat, not a dame of dalliance. Soccer lovers shuffle up to the TVs at the chrome-accented bar and the giant projection screen that’ll be lowered during matches. 7 East 36th Street between 5th and Madison Aves.

Trattoria Cinque
The doors of this Tribeca trattoria will open as early as 10 a.m. every game day and inside awaits a selection of Sicilian treats for soccer fans. Along with their standard drink selection and a slew of such $5 World Cup-inspired cocktails (The Dino: Bombay Saphire, sweet vermouth, grapefruit juice, lime twist and a salted rim), this paisano-palace offers breakfast, antipasto and apertivo options for five dollars a pop. Come for an early-morning cappuccino and corner kicking fix; stay for the Sicilian rice balls and celebration. And if the reigning champs win a game, guests receive $1 Peronis and Campari cocktails. Now that’s an offer we can’t refuse. 363 Greenwich Street at Franklin St.

Mercadito
Soak up all the goal-scoring action on the 52-inch screens and stuff your face with all you can eat tacos afterwards at this Mexican hot spot. Mercadito will show all games daily, and open as early as 10 a.m. for specific matches. Their selection of strong tequila-based cocktails ensures the atmosphere will get rowdy. 179 Ave B between 11th & 12th Sts.

Play Beautiful
Beginning June 20th for the second week of World Cup matches, this makeshift soccer stadium will set up shop in Mulberry Street’s Open House Gallery. Featuring two six-foot projection screens, a concession stand manned by local NY chefs, bleachers, Astroturf flooring and even an official FIFA apparel store, it might be the closest a New Yorker can get to a real stadium experience. Reservations are free for each match, so long as you secure one online, and seventy hooligans can be crammed in for all the action.  201 Mulberry St.
