I started going to the Canal Bar to reconnect with a bartender friend who started working there. Since then I have made several new friends and have had a laugh riot on many an occasion with some drop dead gorgeous babes.

Weeknights can be quiet, perfect for talking over a pail of nips or other drink specials. Tuesday's free pool night brings out some good shooters. The weekend rocks with a great jukebox and small mixed groups of locals stopping in for a few before going home from a night out in Manhattan.

The owner and bartenders are exceptionally friendly, remember names, remember favorite drinks and make the best free popcorn in the Gowanus area. The owner has also opened the Crooked Tail Cafe, two doors down, a great place for a tasty panini or pastry with espresso.
