Five Leaves
- Neighborhood: Greenpoint
- 18 Bedford Ave.
- Brooklyn, NY 11222
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
There's some disagreement over what "Five Leaves" refers to at the Heath Ledger-backed Greenpoint bar. The number of Swan cigarette papers left before the box tells you to buy a new one? The Nick Drake album? Regardless, the gently nautically themed bar (designed by the same team behind Tailor and Smith & Mills) and gently Australian-themed restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner—nothing too fancy, mostly burgers, sandwiches and salads (and pastries, pancakes and eggs for breakfast), with a few gourmet surprises thrown in, like the sliced radishes on toast with Evans Farmhouse butter. The ceiling is lined in clean blonde wood, making it look like a welcoming, old-fashioned carpentry shop (well, maybe that's a bit of a stretch) or a simple farmhouse art gallery, with handmade glass-and-wire lights and birch-bark-esque "steel wallpaper" contributing to its airy coziness.
