Established in 1999 by Handsome Dick Manitoba, frontman for the legendary Dictators (Go Girl Crazy!), this comfortably gritty bar pays homage to the golden era of New York punk. The walls are literally crammed with photos and memorabilia of a time when most of the current tattoos-and-piercings crowd weren't even born. As rent hikes force out old stalwarts like CBGB, it remains as close to an old-school, authnetic East Village experience as we'll ever get anymoe.
