Mulberry St. Bar

While not always under the same name—the bar long stood as Mare Chiaro—this institution bleeds Little Italy credibility (its doors first opened more than a century ago). It's something of a dive, with an unremarkable drink selection and furnishings from what seem like the Johnson Administration, although you will find flat screen TVs for the game—the mob boss atmosphere shines through both visually and with a single listen of the jukebox, which is stuffed with Rat Pack and soul classics. And it's this genuine atmosphere that made the bar a star: Dozens of movies and TV shows have had scenes filmed here, including"The Sopranos," "Godfather III" and "Donnie Brasco" among the elite, and it's part of the draw for the more-than-occasional tourist passing through.
