Does Cher singing over AC/DC drive you wild? Do you think Journey sounds better when borrowing beats from Afrika Bambatta? To the uninitiated, welcome to the subgenre of mashups: the mixing of two completely different tunes into one cool-ass (and rarely legally cleared) hybrid, creating what some call "bastard pop."

The leaders in the field are musician/DJ duo Adrian & the Mysterious D AKA A + D. They've been throwing a traveling mashup bootleg (hence the name "Bootie") party since 2003, which is considered to be the biggest and most popular event of its kind in the world. It started in San Francisco, and has since traveled to LA, Paris, Munich, Hong Kong and Mexico City, and after bouncing around venues in our town last year, they've finally found a permanent home for their monthly New York party, which ends tonight right in time for summer break.

A and D have set up shop at the Vault at Element, spinning tracks from their constantly growing catalogue of mashes. This week, expect the sounds of Gwen Stefani versus ZZ top, Britney versus Amy (Winehouse), Radiohead versus Kylie Minogue and lots more. Also,  $5 Bootie cocktails (a cloying but sort of humorous blend of Malibu, Bacardi and various juices) will be on hand all night, as will a handful of impressive guest DJs.
