While some hip-hop DJs have made big names for themselves by playing the hits, DJ Stretch Armstrong has done the same…except he plays the hits before they’re hits. Back in the ‘90s, he teamed with the also-famed DJ Bobbito with a late-night show on WKCR Columbia U radio, where the two would introduce artist after artist to the city, way before “Hot” 97 was even spinning stuff like the Wu-Tang Clan and the Notorious BIG—only two of the many who first got major play on their show. These days, Stretch has amped up with some dance rock and other clubby stuff, but chances are he’ll be putting down the classics that you love—and some you may have totally forgotten about, too. Everything kicks of at 11 p.m. for $10 each, with DJ Eli Escobar backing Armstrong in the house as well.
