Water Taxi Beach on Governor's Island
- Governor's Island
- 1 Carder Rd.
- New York, NY 10004
The third sibling in the Water Taxi family, WTB Governors Island is, like its sisters, serving booze and mostly-under-$10 seaside grub—hot dogs, burgers, sausages, RC Cola pork spareribs, watermelon—as well as providing many, many square feet of sandy "beach" area for patrons to play and sunbathe and generally make that ferry ride worth the 20 minutes and zero dollars (it's free, and it leaves every hour on the hour from Manhattan, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). They've also got a rad live-performance lineup scheduled for the rest of the summer—Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Hip Hop Karaoke—so rally your friends in advance for a weekend jaunt.
Loungier beachgoers can expect sand, sun, booze and food from the outdoor cafe and grill—and anyone looking to break a sweat can bring equipment for the volleyball and basketball courts. As always, there's no swimming, but there's plenty of awesome views of the water, as well as a killer Manhattan skyline.
