BARS: Food & Wine says 14 of America's 100 best bars are in NYC
According to Food & Wine Cocktails 2009, F&W's yearly guidebook to what's good in drinking, 14 of the country's 100 best bars are here in NYC. No surprise there. Although the list isn't tremendously creative (bars that involve Sasha Petraske, elegant underground bars, bars that make old-timey cocktails, perennial upscale classics), they're all solid choices. The only eyebrow-raiser in the group is Dutch Kills, which only opened about a week ago, meaning they reviewed it and wrote it up pre-opening. Suspicious.
Anyway, here's the list:
Compelling? Boring? About right if your favorite bar experience includes spending between $10 and $20 for a drink? Sure. The book goes on sale tomorrow, May 5th, at bookstores nationwide, and also includes food and cocktail recipes, advice on using (and buying) bar tools and a taste-test of high-end booze. ($14.95)
