When Cielo first opened it was—like most Meatpacking venues—a tad too exclusive for its own good, which inevitably lead to super-stiff patrons only looking to hang somewhere with a "name." Thankfully, that phase is (sort of) over and while there are still lines outside and officious bouncers preaching the "no guys allowed without girls" nonsense, it's the music that keeps ‘em coming. Known for being a futuristic haven for serious devotees of deep house and trance, Cielo features a blue-hued sunken dance floor surrounded by banquettes and highlighted by a range of innovative lighting schemes. The world-class sound system is impressive, as are the international DJs regularly spinning. Not so impressive? The steep—almost obscene—cocktail prices. Scenesters looking to get a jump on the week should check out Deep Space—a futuristic dub party featuring Francois K from the late, lamented Body and Soul, who began a weekly Monday residency.
