When it comes to nightlife on the Upper East Side, it’s safe to assume that most of us envision rows of fratty dives with a clientele best described using words like post-collegiate or cookie-cutter. That having been said, it's no wonder this small velvet-roped lounge (which once called Soho home) is a hit with those looking to get away from the UES standard—without hopping on the downtown 6 train. Sexy scarlet lighting and an understated tropical theme preside, while a diverse crowd fill small dance floor bordered by cushy couches. The music is a pleasing blend of hip-hop, reggae, Latin and pop. Less pleasing is the constant cover charge, but show up before 10 p.m., and you’re usually in free.
