Although this Murray Hill drinkery seems like more of the same (plasma TVs, hair gel, striped shirts—the fratraditional rules are written in stone), Van Diemens, originally the name of Tasmania, is measurably snazzier than its peers: Note the pressed-tin ceilings, exposed brick and colorful lights. The booze list is beer-heavy, with a wide variety of draughts, and the food menu sticks to traditional American fare. Nightly DJs keep Journey and Boston off the stereo.
