We have a soft spot for the low-key French wine-and-cheese bar Cafe Cornichon, but apparently no one else does. Besides us, there's only two people here—but maybe it's the sweltering heat that's keeping them away. Why is it so hot inside?

We order a $6 glasses of sauvignon blanc and a cute little plate of cheeses ($4), which comes with grapes and a basket of sliced mini baguette bread. Dainty!
