Merkato | Agbekor
Though this melon-colored mixture of Svedka Citron vodka, Drambuie, saffron, lime and grapefruit juice is named for an ancient African war dance, it’s hardly aggressive on your taste buds (unless you swallow the whole Thai chili pepper floating on top, but don't do that). Rather, the fruity-floral delicacy balanced with the chili’s piquant punch makes it taste like a spicy mango salsa. And although saffron is the dominant flavor, it's a well-balanced cocktail that dances to the beat of its own drum (hah). ($14)
Burn degree: 2nd
Hot stuff? 4 stars. Medium-bodied and mildly spiced, its smooth blend of fruity, floral, herbal and spice notes proves “spicy” doesn’t need to be synonymous with “pain.”
