Cabana Bar | Bonfire Bowl
December 1, 2008
At beachy newcomer Cabana Bar, painted white and outfitted with a wave mural and a window ceiling, you'd expect nothing less than the tiki-style Bonfire Bowl. Pineapple, peach and strawberry juices are paired with triple sec, ice and light rum, all in a classic tiki bowl. Then a measure of 151-proof rum is poured into a separate, shallow well and set aflame, creating a little tropical pomp and circumstance in Park Slope. Better yet, bartenders pair the boozy bombast (built for three or four) with gratis spicy popcorn and sugarcane shots. ($16)
Verdict: 4 stars. Dollar for dollar, rum for rum, Cabana's sweet, boozy punch is the town's best deal. You'll stumble from the bar with a liquor-fueled grin—and a fistful of popcorn.
