Pranna | Pranna Punch
December 1, 2008
This 15,000-square-foot, Southeast Asian–style stunner is spread across multiple floors, with dual dining rooms and bars. Along with satay skewers and intensely flavored curries, the eatery's cocktail program includes a killer house punch. The playful, ruby-hued take on sangria—given to guests as a free, shot-size amuse-bouche, and sold as a full-fledged drink—is fashioned with rum, vanilla-flavored cognac, maple syrup, bitters, fresh ginger, apple and lemon juices. Pomegranate seeds are then sunk to the bottom, and nutmeg is grated on top. ($12)
Verdict: 3 stars. Tasting like Christmas in the South Seas, the punch has a pleasing belly-warming burn that's eventually overwhelmed by a sugary bombast.
