The dark and sultry Death & Company has grown into one of downtown's go-to cocktail temples. Armed with bitters and boutique spirits, the nattily dressed barkeeps concoct luxe, inventive drinks and potent punches like the Arrack. La Favorite Rhum Agricole Blanc, Batavia Arrack, Luxardo maraschino liqueur, fresh lime juice and bitters are blended with ice, then strained and served in an antique punch bowl with an icy buoy in the middle and lime slices floating like flowers. Nearly nine ounces of liquor—six of 'em 100-proof—go into this brawny beauty, which'll sate six. ($42)

Verdict: 4 stars (out of 5). Ladled into dainty teacups, the Arrack—a funky, fuel-like rum made from sugarcane and fermented red rice—possesses a gentle sweetness, which has us reaching for a second, then a third cup.
