Sidewalk and terrace bars
New sidewalk bars: There weren't a lot of purely sidewalk-drinking-oriented newcomers this year, but we'll give new Cobble Hill restaurant Watty & Meg a visit to sit at one of their dozen tree-shaded two-top outdoor tables for a drink and maybe brunch (or dinner). Oh, and The JakeWalk in Carroll Gardens scored some outdoor seating recently, too, although we're hoping they add an awning or some umbrellas to complete the vibe.
Old sidewalk favorites: It's hard to think of a more pleasant afternoon activity than drinking margaritas and Presidentes at Pedro's in Dumbo, watching the beautiful hipsters while the sun sets over the bridge. (Except that it's currently closed—they're "waiting for [their] license" and hoping to reopen before the end of the summer. Fingers crossed so hard!) Also, for the Grand Central commuters: The tony and somewhat odd recessed sidewalk patio that is the Campbell Terrace is open from 2 to 10 p.m. only on the weekdays, serving stiff specialty cocktails in a shaded and secret-feeling stretch of open air. And although the terrace at Cipriani Wall Street (pictured) isn't technically on the sidewalk, it's a secret, airy and gorgeously palatial spot about one story up—perfect for bellinis and their bounteous breadbasket.
