If an Ivy League library had a three-way love child with a 1940s-style bank lobby and a Jasper Johns Americana art exhibit, it'd be the Ace Hotel Lobby Bar. Gorgeous, airy and impeccably designed, the Ace serves a hanfdul of specialty cocktails, like the Flatiron (made with rhum clement, ginger beer and basil) and bar snacks, like caramel popcorn and crispy pork scratchings, to a hip and good-looking crowd lounging on plaid armchairs and leather couches. A cluster of vintage stone study tables, topped with downturned reading lamps, sit in the middle of the room and harken back to college days—and are, in fact, frequently home to impeccably turned out college-age guests on their MacBooks. A photo booth suggests something to do if tipsy boredom takes over, although the Ace's vibe is more sophisticated and calm than drunk and debaucherous, so we wonder how often it's used.
