The Half King
- Neighborhood: Chelsea
- 505 W. 23rd St.
- New York, NY 10011
- 212-462-4300
An enterprise of "The Perfect Storm" author Sebastian
Junger, this no-pretense West Side taven has all the makings of an
ideal neighborhood pub, most of which set it apart from typical
'literary' venues: classic grub like juicy
burgers and beef pot pie, with some vegetarian and traditional Irish
options thrown in, plenty of beers on tap, and a mixed clientele that
can't be
readily defined by one stereotype. Billing itself as a bar for wrirters
owned by writers, The Half
King hosts about 50 literary events a year, and the weekly Monday
reading series has become something of a Chelsea institution. There's
also a semi-regular magazine night, which has reeled in writers and
editors from some of the most prominent publications on the planet.
