The Sweet Afton
The Irish brothers behind the popular West Village gastropub (emphasis on pub) Wilfie & Nell are back at it with another cozy bar with a rustic vibe, but this time in Astoria: Like its Manhattan sister, The Sweet Afton keeps the focus on high-quality cocktails and UK-leaning comfort food (fried pickles, burgers), all served in a classy but neighborhood-friendly space filled with exposed brick, warm wood and bright windows. Instead of a menu planned by Momofuku alum Joaquin Baca, the Sweet Afton's dishes come courtesy P.J. Calapa, of Nobu 57. Also on tap: 10 rotating draughts from near and afar, plus a special beer of the month. Sweet Afton, incidentally, is also the name of a Robert Burns poem. And a cigarette brand. The more you know!
