Carrie—who wistfully wonders, “Can you be friends with an ex?”—finally gets her answer (a resounding "no") at the upscale Flatiron eatery Eleven Madison Park, where she meets Big for a “friendly” lunch. The pair order iced tea and mineral water before switching to Cosmos and Scotch; an hour later (and a few drinks in), Big drops the bomb that he and Natasha—better known as “the idiot stick figure with no soul”—are engaged.

The cavernous, high-ceilinged space couldn’t contain Carrie’s shock as she knocks over her chair while trying to leave, lashes at Big in the center of the main dining room, and stumbles down the stairs, chiding a waiter “these steps are very dangerous.” Had he known what a scene his news would cause, Big should have considered booking one of the two balcony-level private dining rooms, above and away from diners gawking in disbelief.
