With the recession lingering, Pearl Wine Bar was apparently too fancy for this Financial District space. The area’s brokers don’t want vino in a bear market. But apparently they want cheap beer and red meat! Peal’s replacement, 1834, obliges. A $5 burger and a beer deal lures in those who’ve lost their life savings down the block. The food is the right price for tough times, but hungry stock market folk still demand quality. Owner Mario Carta brought in chef Diane DiMeo from the Food Network, and she came up with a menu of bar snacks that’s easy on the wallet but satisfying for all the alpha dogs in the room. The three story sports bar comes equipped with 20 flat screens to keep patrons occupied while they chow. CNBC is banned from the tubes, for obvoius reasons.
