Our resident cheapskate (and newly published author) Josh Bernstein take us to his top Brooklyn beer joints
Metromix's intrepid "Dollar Grub" writer, Josh
Bernstein, just wrote a book about craft beer,
"Brewed Awakening," which hit stores last week.
And which undoubtedly makes him an expert on beer!
Woot! Here, he gives us a sudsy tour of his top five Brooklyn beer joints.
For much of my adult life—and a couple teenage years too—I’ve knocked back vast quantities of the sudsy stuff, enough to fill an Olympic-size swimming pool several times over. If medals were awarded for imbibing, I’d most likely merit a shiny gold.
Over the ensuing years, my interest waned in blacking out on 4 a.m. subway rides home: less focus on quantity, more on quality. “It’s all for research,” I’d tell my then-girlfriend, as I dragged her from Barcade to Spuyten Dutvil to d.b.a.—one craft beer mecca after another, each offering new and increasingly exciting flavors and styles of beer. If it was poured from a bottle, can or tap, I wanted to know about it.
Here, I take you on a tour of five of my favorite local Brooklyn spots (read: within stumbling distance of home) for sipping craft beer on the cheap. With beer, taste shouldn’t break the bank.
