Cocktailians compete, with elderflower on the brain. And in the drinks!
To mark the spring harvest of wild elderflowers, the main component in distinctly French spirit St-Germain, the 3rd Annual Can-Can Classic cocktail competition was held at the Bowery Hotel on Monday night. 13 of the countries top mixologists were flown in for a spirit contest—with five grand for top prize. And, drum roll….Bobby McCoy of Boston’s Eastern Standard took first prize with the Elixir Alpestre (Bols Genever, Becherovka, Angostura Orange Bitters, Pernod Absinthe and, of course, St-Germain). NYC representation included Adam Schuman (Fatty ‘Cue) Sam Anderson (Hotel Delmano) and judges Dave Wondrich (The Professor!), Phil Ward (Mayahuel) and Lynnette Marrero (Rye House). A carnival followed the contest. Magic tricks were performed.
