Spicy spins from Dram, The Collective and Employees Only
According to El Cobre's beverage director Mayur Subbarao, a buck is drink made with citrus, either lemon or lime, and ginger, and served in a tall Collins glass on ice. You can add any spirit or liquor combination you want, and the ginger usually comes as ginger beer. So, given the relative simplicity, there are numerous cocktails that fall in the bucks category—the most well known being the rum-based dark and stormy.
To make things a little more confusing, the close-cousin mule is typically a vodka version of a buck. But as Subbarao says, a mule is "sterile...so there you have it." Through deep research (and healthy tippling) we found a unique and springy take on the drink featuring a range of spirits: rum, bourbon, tequila and gin.
