The Dizzy Fizz: Holiday Spirits Bazaar
Last night the Dizzy Fizz hosted their annual Holiday Spirits Bazaar at the Astor Center, and holy break out the punchbowls are we ready to throw the best holiday parties ever. Veritable punch king, David Wondrich was on hand stirring up a cauldron of something with rum, cognac and porter beer aged in rum barrels. Hudson Whiskey created a milk punch, which was not only a delicious standout of the evening, but a less unctuous alternative to egg nog.
Nick van Tiel from Beefeater concocted an insanely yummy gingerbread punch, and now we think gin and all things ginger should always be together for the holidays, leave the gin and tonics for the summer! And for a little earlier in the holiday season, fur hat clad "Russians" presented guests with Thanksgiving in Russia, a pumpkin and Russian Standard Vodka cocktail that would be a perfect dessert cocktail. The sweetly herbal Becherovka was beautifully paired in a hot apple cider with lemon, bitters and nutmeg by Ria Soler, which prompted one tippler to exclaim, "That's how it should be done!" And for a simple and festive twist on hot chocolate, why not spike it with a shot of smoky Scorpion Mezcal. Lots of ideas for mixing up your holiday parties, now you must excuse us, we're going in search of some hair of the dog.
