Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich have come up with their own version of fast food—and it isn't pizza. Instead, it's a tapas-y spread of Spanish treats served at communal tables along with a solid selection of Spanish wines. The name translates to "ham bar" and there are two on offer, both worth trying. It's an offshoot of Casa Mono, the more elaborate Spanish restaurant under the same management, so patrons can expect the same culinary qualityand some of the plates to be prepared in that kitchen. Almost frightfully tiny, Bar Jamon gets jam-packed, especially on weekends, so long waits are the norm. How the waiters manage to do their jobs with so many crammed-in folks is anybody's guess. Never mind, though, as the staff is cheerful and always accomodating.
