Sidling up to the Gowanus border, Black Mountain Wine House is so refreshingly off the beaten path that burned-out locals have flocked to it in droves. In warmer months, the outdoor patio, with its wooden, Adirondack-style furniture, makes for a convivial gathering spot. But for those long and lean winter months, our money is on the inviting indoor space, complete with fireplace. There's always a $6.50 house glass available, with a well-rounded (and global) list venturing to Oregon, Spain and the Loire Valley. The kitchen supplies a burgeoning menu of salads, crostini and daily specials (plus a $16 Swiss fondue night on Tuesdays). All affordable, and all delicious. We hesitate even writing about this place, for fear of overcrowding. But the public has a right to know.
