Earth Day
Since 1970, April 22nd has represented for Mother Earth, demanding she gets some well-deserved T.L.C. Years ago, EDay supporters were often giggled at as over-reactionary, but nowadays most people—even an immediately-familiar former Vice-President— acknowledge that we’re probably better off not melting every glacier on the face of the planet.

Last year over one billion people took part in the festivities and events that were held prior to and on Earth Day (a span better known as Earth Week). NYC played a major part, so Metromix has decided to map out the big activities that are taking place in celebration of the greenest days in 2008 (no offense, St. Patrick):

EarthFair 2008 at Grand Central Terminal April 18, 12 p.m. and April 19, 11 a.m.
The mother of ED events, featuring dozens of exhibitions, musical performances and activities for the kids. Check their site for a full breakdown of this two-day expo. Vanderbilt Avenue, E. 42nd-45th Sts., west side of Terminal

Earth Day Celebration in Central Park  April 20, 12 p.m. at Rumsey Playfield
