Rock legend Blondie wowed the crowd at the Brooklyn Museum’s launch party for “Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present” and rightly so. They took the stage to usher in a gutsy and revealing retrospective of over 50 years of the seminal link between rock stars and the photographers who glorify them. This compelling exhibit features 175 works by over 105 photographers giving fans a peak behind the scenes of everyone from Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, LL Cool J, Tina Turner and Amy Winehouse.
Rock icons are captured at their best, their worst and at times their most accessible by celebrity photographers that include Annie Leibowitz, Diane Arbus, Linda McCartney, Mark Seliger and Albert Watson. The exhibit is organized under six sections; behind the scenes; musicians at the start of their careers; live performances; crowds and fans; portraits and conceptual album covers. In short, there is something for every Rock & Roller, past and present.
