One glance at any Jonathan Adler boutique and the interior designer’s canine crush is apparent. Colorful food bowls, spaniel-shaped lamps and biscuit-print dog beds fill each whimsical shop with an-always-full water dish outside for hot hounds hitting the concrete. So it comes as no surprise that Jonathan Adler has a posh pooch of his own. An adorable Norwich terrier if there ever was one, the 11 year-old Liberace has been living NYC's dolce dog vita with Jonathan and his partner, Barneys creative director Simon Doonan. From butch preferences to swimming pool tricks, here’s a look at what life with Liberace is like.
Liberace is pure Norwich?
He is supposed to be a Norwich but his ears flop down so we say that he is half Norwich, half Norfolk and therefore a new breed: The Norwalk.
Does he do any special tricks?
Only if you consider a neighbor-startling, high-pitched squeal every time you jump in the pool a trick.
What is your favorite pet store in NYC?
Wag Wear.
Most extravagant gift you ever bought him?
I try to shower him with expensive trinkets but unfortunately, he is very butch and refuses to wear anything so we keep it simple.
Do you have a favorite dog park in NYC?
Never! The only time we took him to the dog park he got terribly sick.
Do you take your pet to restaurants with you?
Yes! But we cannot reveal where because then everyone would be arrested.
Number one pet-peeve about other dog owners?
I literally have none.
Do you have any styling or grooming tips for dog owners wanting to take the best photographs of their pets?
Liberace looks best when his tongue is hanging out so I try to get him all hot and bothered.
