That’s why Dodson and others tout the group approach. “Anyone going to any sex-informational group, whether it’s called 'Tantra' or 'G-spot'” or 'Fucking Like a Feminist' is a smart person. Just being in a group talking honestly about sex or listening to others has great healing potential and learning possibilities,” Dodson says.
And this June and July, there are more than two dozen exciting workshops in New York City's Babeland locations, including “Creative Sex Life with [Sexologist] Ducky Doolittle" and "How to Please Your Man/Woman." (You’ll see this writer personally covering Babeland’s July 13 “BDSM 101: Erotic Bondage and Dirty Domination” workshop at the SoHo location at 43 Mercer Street).
The sex-class pioneer of an institution is also opening its Brooklyn location in Park Slope on June 15 (462 Bergen St. between Flatbush and 5th Ave). The Brooklyn store will also be the first to launch a monthly series focused on what it means to be a sex-positive family. Claire Cavanah, Babeland co-founder and Park Slope mom, is facilitating a discussion with a different guest each month starting June 24, when Esther Blum, author of "Eat, Drink and Be Gorgeous," leads a discussion on how nutrition affects hormones and sex.
“We’ve been hosting more social events in the past few years with a strong response,” Cavanah says. “We’re moving beyond our established workshops and adding wine and chocolate parties, flirt parties, date nights, and crafting events where the focus is on social interaction and mingling.”
