Theater: New shows!

A few months ago, everyone who builds the sets on and Off-Broadway seemed to be out of work. But the dead patch that left them unemployed is moving across NY stages like a low-pressure weather front. Fortunately, the set hands are back on the job, which means we'll have new plays by August. In the meantime, the only show starting up this week is "Dance of the Seven-Headed Mouse", which makes it a shoo-in for Pick of the Week.

A brittle family melodrama that aims to push emotional buttons. Its subject is the death of a child, its issue is substance abuse, its setting is the Fifth Avenue super-bourgeoisie. Also, a blue-color guest (predictably) exposes the cracks in the family's careful facade. But the title suggests an imagination.
