This playground for the mind is the grandest museum in all of New York City. The massive structure houses realistic models of dinosaurs, whales, fish, birds, bears, buffalo and snakes. So real, you’ll have a new appreciation for Ben Stiller’s “Night at the Museum.” As well as dozens of permanent exhibits like the The Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth and dioramas showcasing Native Americans, ancient cultures from around the globe, fossils, biodiversity and meteorites that’ll make any fourth-grader jealous; there are numerous amounts of temporary exhibits throughout the year including the ever-popular Butterfly Conservatory.

The museum is also home to the Rose Center for Earth and Space. Constructed for the new millennium, this monumental 120-foot-high, 333,500-square-foot facility encompasses a completely rebuilt Hayden Planetarium (which shows the popular SonicVision show on Friday and Saturday nights for the 4:20 crowd) and spectacular exhibition halls that explore the vast range of sizes in the cosmos; the 13-billion-year history of the universe; the fascinating nature of galaxies, stars, and planets; and the dynamic features of Earth.
