A cage match of heart-stopping (and artery-clogging!) cassoulet craftsmanship
January 16, 2010
On Saturday, East Village subterranean comfort-food spot Jimmy's No. 43 capped off their Mid-Winter Green Market Sausage & German Beer celebration with a greenmarket cassoulet cook-off, with chefs both pro and amateur facing off in a cage match of heart-stopping cassoulet craftsmanship (and judged by the likes of Inside Park's Matt Weingarten and Mr. Cutlets himself, Josh Ozersky).
In the end, it was the The Food Experiments' Theo Peck who won the judges' award (his fellow Food Experiments cohort, Nick Suarez, was right behind, in second place). The people's choice award went to Martha Stewart vets Emma Feigenbaum and Sandy Gluck. All that eating benefited a good cause: The $20 admission fee went straight into the CENYC's Greenmarket coffers, helping to assure that when you're ready to test out your own cassoulet chops, there'll be quality local ingredients at your disposal.
