Feast of the Giglio
A time-honoured tradition in the Neapolitan region of Italy, the Feast of the Giglio ("Festa del Giglio") honours San Paolino di Nola. In Williamsburg's Italian nabe, this is celebrated with 100 men carrying a hand-built, 65-foot papier-mâché statue on their shoulders along North 8th and Havemeyer Streets. This is reason enough to check it out, but over the 11 days you also get carnival rides, live music and Italian cuisine.
