Bastille Day on Smith Street
The French love Cobble Hill. Whether it's the open-air cafes or the access to good cheese and wine, there's something that draws them to this quaint Brooklyn neighborhood. So it's only fitting that Smith Street hosts an annual Bastille Day celebration, spanning Bergen to Pacific Streets. Sand covers the block near Bar Tabac on the corner of Dean Street, where America's largest petanque tournament (a French version of the better-known bocce) hosts over 80 international teams with players from as far away as Thailand.
