We're no fan of awards shows. We haven't watched an Oscar broadcast since 2003, and our theater tastes tend towards the funky and political work off-Broadway. So when we say we enjoyed the 2009 Tony Awards, take it with a grain of salt. The show didn't offer any dramatic upsets—we only steered you wrong once in last week's picks (“The Norman Conquests” won Best Play Revival)—but it did bring together some unexpected speeches, fashion and performances.
