A twenty-year tradition is still going strong at the Nuyorican. Winners of this slam, which consists of the first 20 poets to sign up, can compete in Friday's more famous slam. A good overview of the event's history and rules can be found here. Note the event is NOT hold on the first Wednesday of each month, but it is held on every subsequent Wednesday.
