January: Be a cheap gourmand!
Did you make a New Year's resolution to lose some weight? It can wait until next 2013! Here's a really rad new year's resolution: Try as many awesome restaurants as you can during Winter Restaurant Week (Jan. 16-Feb. 10), with each one begging for your appetite and cheap moolah. Over 300 venues promise to stuff your face, offering up three-course, prix-fixe $24.07 lunches and $35 dinners (sans beverages, tax and gratuity, of course. And not on weekends). Speaking of food, the Best of Metromix voting kicks off in Jan. 16—check out last year's winners before deciding on this year's!
Not a foodie? The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival (Jan. 4–15) shines a spotlight on theater's emerging talent. Think that's bull? Then watching some cowboy pros ride the bulls during the Professional Bull Riders tournament at Madison Square Garden (Jan. 6-8). And for those of you with no shame, take a commando trip on the No Pants Subway ride (Jan. 8). For the less adventurous, there's always TV: check out the People's Choice Awards (Jan. 11 on CBS), the NFL playoffs (next three weekends) and the BCS Championship Game (Jan. 9). And if you're not hitting up the Sundance Film Festival (Jan. 19-29), we'll be providing updates from the fest in Utah.
Other highlights: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 16), Chinese New Year (Jan. 23)
