Maria's Coffee Shop

Later in the novel, as Jarvis begins to question her marriage, she recounts a story Martin told her in a tiny Greenpoint donut shop about the army of gorgeous Polish girls working behind the counter. “I don’t know that Polish people even work there, at Maria’s Coffee Shop (769 Manhattan Ave. at Meserole Ave., Brooklyn) but it just struck me. I think I went in there one night after I’d been around the corner at the Polish nightclub, Europa (98-104 Meserole Ave. at Manhattan Ave., 718-383-5723—see next photo). Little places just stick in your head, even if you only go in once.”
