Manhattan Mayhem vs. Bronx Gridlock
July 26, 2008
Can you dig it? Forget "The Warriors"...the true battle for New York took place Saturday at Hunter College, as the Manhattan Mayhem faced off against the Bronx Gridlock in another week of Gotham Girls Roller Derby action. And Metromix was there!
It was a good match, but hardly a fair fight. The Gridlock walloped the Mayhem 159-79. Afterwards, Ginger Snap from the Gridlock described the action on the GG message board: "It was one hell of a fierce crashing, smashing, derby fiesta! Manhattan 2 time game MVP, Em Dash, scored a whopping 52 of Mayhem's 79 points. Bronx captain Kandy Kakes took home the MVP title for her team after spending the night picking off anything in orange she could see."
Next up: a Gotham Girls Garden Party on Aug. 8 at the Hope Lounge in Williamsburg...and, yeah, mixing a typical Gotham Girls "fierce crashing, smashing, derby fiesta" with a "garden party" may seem incongrous, but trust us: this is the best way for fans and players to mingle (less violence, more drink specials). More info coming soon from Metromix (one of the night's "fierce crashing, smashing" sponsors). And the next match? August 16, where the Gridlock face off against the Queens of Pain.
