Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade
October 26, 2008
Halloween has gone to the dogs...literally. On Sunday in Tompkins Square Park, the Friends of First Run presented the 18th Annual Halloween Day Parade, featuring costumed canines and the owners who love them. Best in show was Rapunzel, a giant moving castle tower on wheels, featuring another dog as her knight (see slides #40-42).
During the Parade, there were four rounds of judging. Some highlights: a Chi-bama (chihuahua Obama) dog, a dog being eaten by a shark, the Dog-aconda snake, Reservoir dog (in shades), The Gambler/dog playing poker (wearing a top hat), a dog re-enacting the spaghetti scene from "Lady and the Tramp," lobster dog in a wooden trap, an astronaut, Toto (complete with yellow brick road) and E.T..
Check out our gallery to see the winners...I suppose you thought we'd say "wieners," but the dog people took our best puns.
