May: Get your drink on and get ready for Fleet Week and Memorial Day bashes
There’s plenty to do in the city before hightailing it to the Hamptons (or, preferably, not). Memorial Day (May 28) may be the official start to the summer lifestyle, but party people can preface their Jitney jaunts with a caliente night out during Cinco de Mayo (May 5) or a yo-ho-ho with the sailor boys during Fleet Week (May 22 - June 2). Trust us, there's no better week to be in the armed services. (Note to our service men and women: Don't expect to pay for any drinks during your stay here!).
While you're taking care of our armed forces, be sure to take care of Mom on Mother’s Day (May 13). And, if you can care just a little more, last year over 45,000 people helped raise more than $5 million for Gay Men's Health Crisis as well as 50 other local AIDS-service organizations during the annual AIDS Walk New York (May 20).
Other highlights: The Five Boro Bike Tour (TBD), the Manhattan Cocktail Classic (May 11-15, pictured) and Met's Costume Institute Gala and Exhibition (May 2).
