October: The time to play dress-up (for yourself OR your pets)
Sadly, October is the only month where putting on sexy nurse outfits and/or donning scary zombie make-up is socially acceptable. Even then, most people wait until the end of the month to show off their costumes at the Village Halloween Parade or the Webster Hell after-party (Oct. 31). But why limit yourself? If you want to dress up, the Tompkins Square Park Halloween Parade (TBD) is a chance for both you AND your pet to show off. And New York Comic-Con (Oct. 11-14) and ZombieCon (TBD) offer non-Halloween opportunities to either titillate or scare passerbys.
For less flashy pleasures, enjoy a weekend of wine and food festivities at the New York Wine and Food Festival (TBD). For music fans, CMJ (Oct. 16–20) may play second fiddle to South by Southwest, but the annual college music conference still brings a whole lotta buzz bands to our crowded clubs. And the Atlantic Antic offers miles of shopping, food and people watching in Brooklyn.
Other highlights: Sports! New York Rangers hockey begins (TBD), baseball concludes with the World Series (late Oct.), and the Gotham Girls Championship (TBD) brings the local roller derby season to a close.
