2011 Idiotarod in NYC
Neither snow nor sleet nor ice nor (apparently) a lack of information until the last minute could keep people away from this year's edition of the Idiotarod. Wait, what? The Iditarod is a famous long-distance race in Alaska with snow dogs and a sled. The Idiotarod, held yesterday around NYC, is similar, except, instead of dogs, it's people, and instead of sleds, it's personally decorated shopping carts. And it's in New York City, not Alaska. Anyway...contestants at the Idiotarod are given a starting position, some checkpoints and a finish line, and it's up to them to find the fastest path around (three hours seems to be the average.) This year, the event started at Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick and ended up in Greenpoint, with an afterparty at Coco66. The team "Disasterpiece" won the day. We were there: Were you snapped?
